beautiful Mother's Day

 - warm, sunny, more summer then spring.

Flowers, cards, presents - a beautiful scarf and a lunch at our favourite restaurant -

What more can a girl want?

felt and concrete

The other day, when playing in my room, my eight year old granddaughter discovered felt - and her new hobby was born.
That day she made herself a note book.

From there she progressed to stitching - and has made this lovely double sided bag.

Of course, our six year old grandson had his own project, with a little help from granddad.

And me?
Autumn chicken - work in progress.

What about the concrete? Well, we are (or I should say DH is) still re-claiming our new garden.
Would you believe that this mountain of concrete came from the small patch of garden behind it?
This is besides the area of concrete to the left of it (shown in one of the previous posts), which we are keeping as a base for the summer house.

As from midnight tonight our clocks are changing to Summer Time, and this weekend it really feels like the spring has arrived.

To all mums in UK I wish a very happy Mother's Day for tomorrow!

summer chicken

Last night I finished "Summer Chicken", the second panel for Four Seasons Chicken Quilt.

We are having a crazy spring Sunday, sun one minute, rain the next; and it is COLD.
Stitching inside is probably the best place to be today.
So on to the next one - Autumn Chicken. I am having fun with this :-)

Thank you for visiting my blog,
I wish you a happy week ahead!

March Sunday

We woke up this morning to a glorious spring day and we were just itching to go outside and at least make
a start on our new garden. It has been a hard slog for DH since we have moved in, removing hundreds of bricks and concrete slabs. The previous owner loved his hard "landscaping"; if it doesn't move, concrete it!
There is an area at the bottom of the garden, which has defeated us completely, only a serious machinery would budge this lot.

But there seems to be a solution to a problem, this is a good base for a new summer house, which arrived last week. Stored in garage, it will have to be painted inside; the night temperatures can still hit zero, no good for a fresh paint.

We managed to reclaim a corner to the right and plant a rowan tree, some newly purchased shrubs and some plants we brought with us from our old garden. It doesn't look much at the moment, but we now feel that we are getting somewhere.

Earlier in the week we went for a long walk, up the hill overlooking the town;

to the right is a misty view of Glastonbury Tor.

I hope that our spring weather will continue and soon we will be able to venture further; I miss our days out, but until recently it just wasn't possible, without getting a good soaking. And of course there is a dilemma - to go out or to do more work here, while the weather is good.

I am very conscious that I have been neglecting you all, I barely find time to post, as I am trying to do more stitching instead. I will try to pop in and see you all soon, I promise :-)

spring chicken

Finished, the first block of my new wall hanging. Yes, the first block; I did not tell you this in my last post - there will four chickens! This is the first block of "Four Seasons Chicken Quilt".
I bought this pattern at a show last autumn, from "The Running Chicken Quilting Company" .

I am trying to use my stash as much as I can here, but you know how it is, never quite enough, I just "needed" to get some more fabric.
I came across Sew and Quilt in Cornwall, they have some lovely fabrics and they were very quick in processing and posting my order.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and happy stitching!

spring temptation

At last! The first of spring months and it is as if the nature is trying to make up for last two months; it is wall to wall sunshine and temperatures in double figures. Has the spring really arrived early and is it here to stay?
Lets hope so...........

Now, I know that I have enough stitching on the go, and yes, I did say I am on the roll with the Scandinavian Rose quilt, and yes, I do want to finish it, BUT - with all this new energy outside I just could not resist. It is just calling for a new project, something light and fun - I had this planned for some time, a wall hanging for our dining area. It is yet to be renovated, so it gives me time...

Do you sometimes have this precise idea about the fabric you need/want, but you just can't find it? I am sure you know what I mean. I wanted this pin dot on cream, and eventually I found that "Ice Cream" by American Jane for Moda was just the thing. Unfortunately I could not find it in UK, so ordered it directly from American Jane . At extra cost of course, but it is just what I want to use as a background to my wall hanging. The lovely blue at the top came with the same order.
DH away today, watching Six Nations game England - Wales at Twickenham, house to myself, time to start my new project.

I found this little primula and crocuses in my new header on the pile of soil in "not yet my garden".
They are trying so hard to stay alive, I will move them to a new flower bed soon.

                                                         Have a great week!
