Montenegro - part 1

DH and I spent 2 weeks in October living in a very comfy hotel in the resort of Becici, near Budva, on the Montenegro coast.
Montenegro - formerly part of Yugoslavia, later "Serbia and Montenegro", and following a referendum in 2006, fully independent Montenegro.
Population - some 640,000, so not even a qtr of a million.
Religion: Catholic, Serbian Orthodox and Muslim, and they all seem to "rub along" very well. The reason I mention this is because there are loads of churches and monasteries in Montenegro, and so quite a few in my pictures.
Around 80% of the country is covered in mountains, some exceed 2,000 m and are some of the most rugged in Europe. It is quite a sight, specially from the air.
Montenegro has about 300 km of a beautiful coastline, with many wonderful beaches and purpose built holiday resorts.

Although late in the holiday season, we were very lucky with the weather, with day temperatures somewhere between 22 -26 C and any rain mainly during the night.
We were fortunate to be able to travel the length of the coast, and also explore some parts of the mountains. I would like to share some of it with you.

This is a view of our resort (on the left) and Budva (on the right) from the road into the mountains.

Budva.

Cetinje, the former royal capital, now part museum, part cultural centre.

View on the way back, the Bay of Kotor.

Tivat.

Sheltering from the rain in a cafe.

And later, back at the hotel, some wonderful dancing.

A monastery, just along the coast from our hotel.

FNwF

Thank you Cheryll for hosting yet another FNwF.
I somehow missed the last couple of these, but I did remember this month!

Friday evening I finished block no 17 of Les Fleurs du Mardi BOM, by Quiltmania magazine.

3 more blocks to go!

I was looking for a small and easy project to take on holidays with me and came across pretty embroidery kits by Nancy Nicholson .

Very neat and easy to pack, the kit comes in its own cotton bag.
The bag is a small project in its own right, a printed design by Nancy Nicholson.

The autumn chill is here, but today we had some glorious sunshine, warm enough to stitch in the garden.
I embroidered my bag, using threads by Stef Francis .

Now I look forward to stitching what is inside the bag!

I wish you all a very good week!

just small things

For some reason my sewing is not going very well at the moment, you know how it is, other things get in the way.

But I have 2 small pieces to show you.

You might remember that just before the end of the school holiday my granddaughter and I started a small wall hanging each, following one of Lynette Anderson's designs.
It is a good project for a beginner, like my granddaughter - it is small enough as not to be scary, but using different techniques, patchwork, quilting, applique, little embroidery....
My granddaughter is still working on hers, school and homework getting in the way at the moment :-)
I have finished mine.

And another block, number 16, for Quiltmania's BOM, Les Fleurs du Mardi.

Enjoy your Sunday!
