Quilter's Parch quilt - block 10, and more

Honeysuckle block

I have remembered this week why I haven't touched this project for such a long time.

 This quilt is really testing me;
the 12" block number 10 is made out of 120 triangles!

No, it did not come out exactly right; the width is OK, but it is little short.
I should imagine there will have to be quite a few adjustments later on.

I have finished all 9 stitcheries for the Little Patchwork Village quilt,
so the decision will have to be made about the fabrics.

I have also finished all the quilting of the Scandinavian Rose quilt, and it is ready for the binding.
That should not take long, once I decide if I should go for blue or red!
But I do want to finish this one before I start making "Awakening",
for which I now have most of the fabrics.
I am really looking forward to doing some applique again.

I hope you all have a good week ahead;
I know, it is that crazy time of year, but slow down, take a deep breath and make some time for yourselves 😅
Christmas will come whatever you do or don't!

Before I'll go, this is what is on my display wall right now;
This quilt comes out every year, around this time.

FNwF

How does the time fly! Here we are in September, with autumn creeping in.
We have had some cold nights, but most days are still nice and sunny, real "beer garden" weather, and even some little stitching in the garden is possible.
Last night we met up again at Cheryll's for FNwF; thanks Cheryll, for being such a great host!

What was I up to?

Last night I nearly finished stitchery no 5 (of 9)
for Little Patchwork Village wall quilt by Rosalie Quinlan.

Earlier in the day I finished joining together all the 2 in hexies, removed the papers from the back and backed the whole piece with Vilene.

What to do with it now?

You know how some fabrics just speak to you?
This piece of batik just shouts "applique leaves", doesn't it?

So last night I started playing with some ideas. You can tell I miss doing applique.

An idea is slowly developing.....

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Scandinavian Rose 14 and signs of autumn

At last, the last stitchery block, number 14, of Scandinavian Rose BOM quilt is finished!

Now I have to decide what to do with  14 stitcheries. I don't think I will follow the original pattern, which suggest borders in red and white patchwork.
I have no definite idea yet, well, there is no rush..

The nice weather is still with us, but it is beginning to feel like autumn, with early morning mist.
When that clears, there is still lots of colour in our garden.

              The spiders have been busy.

just little stitching

Our summer arrived fully last week, with some hot days, but still not warm enough nights. We still don't seem to have those warm evenings, when we can just linger in the garden late into the night, with a glass of wine. But who is complaining? Lets be grateful for this, and it is said to last for at least another few days yet.
But it is definitively "stitching in the garden" weather, only nothing too heavy, as hands get hot.
Time to get out my "play cloth", it is the first time it has seen the light of day since our move last year.

I started this quilt after seeing Tiggy's indigo quilt at her workshop, some 3 years ago (3 years? is it possible?) The fabrics also came from Tiggy, as have the threads I am using today.
This is ideal hot weather stitching, simple, with no rules. Just playing.

Some machine sewing inside in the evening. I have finished all 4 Season Chicken blocks, so it is time to work on the borders. I like flying geese, I think there is always something cheerful about them.

Lazy days in the garden also call for a good book. This is the one I have just finished, "The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul", by Deborah Rodriguez - story of five women, from very different backgrounds, brought together by a fate in a small cafe. Very good book, DH who got to the book before me, agrees.

When I read a book like this, I realise how lucky I was to be brought up to be independent and equal, to be educated, not having to fight for my education, in fact something I always very much took for granted; it was my right.
I am now tempted to get her first book.

Slowly the plants in our new garden start to bloom, and the rose bed in the front, planted during the worst winter wet, is doing fine.

Thank you for your company; I hope you will have a good week!

Scandinavian Rose 11 and - bread

The weather for the past few days has been trying to fool us into thinking that the spring is here.
I wish it was true!
Although we still get some rain, the weather seems to have settled down, and it is more like something we would expect at this time of year.

Out of my hibernation comes
a freshly baked bread

and part 11 of
Scandinavian Rose Quilt BOM.

This is a long and narrow piece, not easy to take a close up picture of.

Three more to go........ Getting there.....

Scandinavian Rose 9

Another part of Scandinavian Rose Quilt BOM finished.

This one was quite quick, but despite that, I think I am beginning to realize the size of the project, as there are 4 more blocks to stitch.
And I have not yet decided on the fabrics for the patchwork part of the quilt!
In her original design Rosalie Quinlan used a selection of red and white fabrics. I know that they were chosen to compliment the redwork of the stitcheries, but I am not convinced that this colour combination does the embroidery justice. I feel that the embroidery designs are so beautiful in themselves and they should be framed more gently. That said, I have no idea (yet) what the answer should be. May be I will wait until I am working on the last embroidery before I seriously think about it and just enjoy stitching it in the meantime.

                                              Have a good stitching week!
