Mrs Beasley's Sampler Quilt - errors

Just a quickie, with the reference to the previous post.

Not only we had to wait too long for the final block, the instructions for the block came with some mistakes. 

I have already been contacted by  a fellow blogger having a problem, and I am sure there must be others wondering why their block isn't working.

These are the two I found (the hard way, after I have cut the fabric out).

As far as I remember, these 2 are the only ones.

Mrs Beasley's Sampler Quilt BOM - very small quilt, but nearly 3 years in making. 

This time this wasn't down to me, but, as I said before, to having to wait for Leanne Beasley to publish Vignette magazine - supposed to be published every quarter, but which turnout to be very irregular; we had to wait 18 months for the latest issue.

So, there it is at last, hand quilted

 and now hanging on a bedroom wall.

This kind of project is my favourite one - 

a combination of patchwork, hand applique and embroidery.

This year I am not making any special Christmas project, just trying to get on with all those projects which are lurking in my work room.

I am waiting for the postman to bring me a fabric parcel, which will be a background for  

all those Fleurs du Mardi blocks.

In the meantime I am helping my granddaughter with her Christmas project.

But one has to think ahead to the new year :-),

a new project in the planning stage perhaps ?

more blocks and Vignette 13

We have been having some horrendous weather this past week, rain, wind, floods.....

Not the time to go out unless you have to, so I managed to catch up with with all the blocks of Les Fleurs du Mardi BOM;

 and I am curious to see how Quiltmania is putting them together.

I am sure many of you know "Vignette Magazine"; for those who don't, this is  magazine published by Leanne Beasley ; it should had been published every qtr, but it is not working quite like that.
I bought an early issue, but was very disappointed; I thought it was very overpriced for what was inside. If you have come across it, I would be interested what you think.



However, much later I saw issue 10, which had the first block of "Mrs Beasley's Sampler Quilt" BOM in it, to be published in 4 parts, and I got "seduced". I loved the design (the combination of patchwork and embroidery, which I love) and I got stitching. Later came block 2, and after some pause, block 3 in issue 12. That was more then 18 months ago! Since then I had been waiting for issue 13.
During that time there was no explanation as to when or if ever the next issue of the magazine will be published. Even magazine distributors (and my supplier) had not been given any more information, and Leanne Beasley wasn't answering any enquiries.
I was beginning to give up, thinking I would have to make up the last block myself.
It seems that Leanne was "too busy" with her new fabric collections, but at last the issue 13 has appeared, and I can finish the quilt.
So, I have pieced the last block together and started on the embroidery.

We are now short on daylight, and the days have been dull, so pictures are not as good as I would like them to be.
I will try to replace them another day.

return to St Germain

This week I finished block no 3 of Mrs Beasley's Sampler quilt, most of it indoors, because the weather has been unpredictable; we had some nice days earlier in the week, but wet again since mid week. At least it is not cold.

Blocks no 1 & 2.

They all need a good pressing.

Block no 4 is yet to be published.

It has been a while since I did any work on the St Germain quilt; I think I needed a rest from all those leaves :-)

So I am now preparing the second part of the outer border.

I will try to mirror the first part as much as I can.

Our garden is 2 years old, and at last it is starting to attract more wild life.

By planting trees we made it easy for birds to visit; the blackbird and his young have actually stripped most of the berries from the young rowan tree already!

Some days, when the sun is out, the garden is buzzing with bees, and they particularly love marjoram and oregano in my herb patch.

Unfortunately the White Cabbage butterfly has made himself at home, laying his eggs and so leaving us with too many caterpillars.

But this beauty, the Red Admiral, is a pleasure to see, first time since we moved in.

FNwF

Another month gone and here we were, first Friday in August.

Thank you Cheryll for hosting yet another FNwF, and even providing a delicious apricot cake!

What was I making? I just could not wait, I was already sewing in the afternoon; it was a good start to a wonderful weekend , 

very pleasant "stitching in the garden" weather.

I started working on 3rd block of Mrs Beasley's Mystery Sampler quilt, and by the evening I had the applique flowers in place on one part of the block.

And last night I was putting together dresden plate for another part of the block.

Today I carried on piecing together the block and then I spent another relaxing afternoon in the garden; I started working on the embroidery part, before it was time for BBQ.

Lets hope we have another nice day tomorrow, it really feels like summer at last!

despite the constant cold wind, it must be summer

because it is the longest day today, but also because my "summer play cloth" has come out of the box! 

This is a project which really only comes out in the summer; it doesn't feel right to stitch on it at any other time. Don't ask me why; may it has to do with the indigo dyed fabrics, process which needs warmth of a sunny day; may be the bright colours of fabrics and threads I am using here.

The indigo fabrics and some of the beautiful threads have come from Tiggy at I'd rather be in India blog. 

The idea here is to fill up every block with some kind of an embroidery or applique, or both.

There is no plan, no pattern.

Just take some fabric and threads and play, see where it takes me.

Needless to say, that this is a very slow project.

and the instructions for block 3 are waiting in this issue of Vignette magazine.

Art Quilting Studio magazine, published only twice a year, is new to me. 

I saw it on Anneliese's blog  and managed to find UK supplier.
It arrived yesterday.
Very inspiring.

green thread and strawberry jam

Good start to the week, the weather is behaving and even getting little warmer.

Last night I did a little stitching on the second block of Mrs Beasley's  Sampler Quilt, but did not have enough green thread to finish all the green on this piece. 

This morning I popped into my local shop to get some more, but they are also out of this particular shade; they will get it for me later in the week.

While I was out I bought some summer fruit and made some jam.

English strawberries 

and Spanish apricots

only about 1kg in total

has given me 3 jars of delicious jam.

It was a beautiful afternoon in my part of the world, ideal for stitching outside.

What did I do on the night?

I picked up the rather neglected Mrs Beasley's Sampler quilt and finished the alphabet embroidery on the second block.











There is still a lot of work to do on this block,
 so maybe I will finish it next FNwF?
