postal avalanche

You know how there are weeks when the postman just doesn't bring anything interesting? And then it happens all at once!

Well this was the week when it all happened......

Valdani threads first.
I have never used them before, they are not readily available in local shops. Much more expensive then DMC for instance, so I want to know if they really are so much better.

I am new to shopping on Etsy, but I was browsing Internet for a hanging plant pot for our new kitchen (when we'll have a new kitchen - girl has to plan ahead, small details are so important) and came across this lovely pot on Piece of Clay website.
It arrived this week - from Holland. It will have to wait until summer to perform its function, but I already know exactly where it will hang.

Another Etsy purchase, Landscape Sky fabric, from a fellow blogger Deborah and Quilt Routes.

Just beautiful!

I hope the camera picked up the gold shimmer here.

This is the BIG one, all the way from Australia:

my prize from Barbara's giveaway on her blog  Theodora Cleave .
How generous is this? What a selection. I am so chuffed!
Thank you Barbara!

I was having my breakfast this  morning, when the postman brought this.
So I made a fresh pot of coffee and lost myself in the world of cakes, tarts and biscuits, many made with seasonal fresh fruit, and with sugar very often substituted by maple syrup or honey. With beautiful photographs, I could smell the cakes by just reading the ingredients!
Pure bliss!

We have been having a wonderful week of sunshine. Although much colder today than the rest of the week, we still have a beautiful bright day. Our little garden is really waking up now.
I am very pleased how well the young olive tree (in the black and green pot) survived the winter.

The new plum tree, planted in the autumn, is covered in blossom.

Freshly planted herb bed by the kitchen door;

and DH's rock garden is also slowly filling up.

The garden bench is waiting......

busy post week

It is hard to believe that another week has gone by. The pleasant start to autumn is still with us, sometimes sunny, sometimes windy, but mostly dry. There is still plenty of colour to be found in the garden.

Our postman was really busy this week, having to walk the path to our house nearly every day.

The most important and exiting was a packet from Australia. This was the prize from a giveaway on Katherine's blog Rose Cottage, a needle case made by her.

This pretty little needle case has already found its way to my basket.
No, I did not make the pin cushion either, this was another present from a friend. A needle case is something I have been promising to myself for a long time, but never got around to making one.
But as you see, this wasn't the only present from Katherine, there was also a nice little fabric card and a bar of CHOCOLATE! Well, I think we can take care of that! Thank you so much, Katherine!

What else did the postman bring this week?
Magazines, some new, some old and trusted.

With the new Quiltmania magazine arrived latest "architect's" drawings for the next housing settlement in the Yoko Saito's Mystery BOM quilt.
This is the largest one to date, not in size of the block, but in number of houses to be "built".

While in the meantime I am still busy building block 4.

Another arrival this week are the instructions for the next block of Lynette Anderson's Fernhill BOM.

Last night we saw on our television the last of the re-run of Downton Abbey, both series one and two, as tonight starts the brand new one, starting with Matthews and Mary's wedding, with the appearance of Shirley MacLaine as Cora's mother. Can't wait! See you there!

I wish you all a happy stitching week!

good start to the holiday week

After not such a great week last week, I had a lovely surprise on Monday. I received an email from Cyndi, letting me know that I am one of the winners  in a giveaway on her blog! Cyndi is sending me a charm pack of Moda fabric.
Thank you very much, Cyndi, for your time to run this giveaway and for your kindness and your generosity. I look forward to receiving my parcel from Ohio!

Well, I don't know what happened to our spring, because we are having SUMMER in this part of the world! The temperatures are in 20C + and it has been pleasant enough to sit and stitch outside until around 7pm. We do get beautiful springs some years, but I can't remember having such warm April evenings as well. The weather people have promised us more of the same well into the Easter weekend, I hope they are right!

saturday's prize

When I opened my emails this morning, I had a lovely comment from Ela on my last post, and a virtual prize on her blog! Thank you very much, Ela! Ela listed my blog as one the 7 blogs she enjoys most. I am so honoured!

                            Award:

Now, if I understand this correctly (Google translation is not always very precise), this is where I give
the same prize to 7 blogs I enjoy most. What a task!!! I could list at least 3 times that number! I wish I could, all you lovely people, but rules are rules :( , Ela said only 7.

So, in no particular order, 7 blogs I most enjoy visiting:
