my version of the Scandinavian Rose quilt

is all finished!

I managed to take a picture outside this morning, before the rain came.

I loved this design by Rosalie Quinlan the first time I saw it,

but it was a very long time in making. 

Looking back through my blog, I can see that I started the first embroidery in February 2013!

I added an extra border, machine quilted inside the blocks and hand quilted the rest, and embellished with few buttons.

Scandinavian Rose, Luna's new jackets, and hot weather, again

I just can't believe that is has been nearly 4 years since I finished all the stitcheries for the Scandinavian Rose quilt! I put them away in the box and that it is where they have been all this time. I think that at the time I wasn't quite sure about the final finish, I did not want to go with the original pattern; sadly, they got forgotten.

Last weekend, when the weather changed and it rained the whole weekend, I found my sewing room again, and moving some boxes around, I came across the stitcheries. 

It is time to do something about it!

I am more inspired now; instead of using just red and white patchwork for the borders, I decided to throw some blue into it.

I already have some white fabric for the backing in my stash, 

so all I need now is some wadding and I can start quilting it!

Do you remember my little friend Luna Lapin? I made her about 18 months ago, and since then she has lived in the one dress I made her at the time.

Some time ago I came across a group on Facebook, called Luna Lapin Little World! One of the group members, Patricia Freeman, designed a pretty knitted jacket for Luna. 

I could not resist and Luna now has 2 new jackets, she is very pleased 😊

Despite weeks of hot dry weather, our garden is not in a bad shape, thanks to DH's patient watering and feeding.

Apparently the hot weather is coming back; it looks like, again, the sewing room might not be the best place to be. 😞

Scandinavian Rose 14 and signs of autumn

At last, the last stitchery block, number 14, of Scandinavian Rose BOM quilt is finished!

Now I have to decide what to do with  14 stitcheries. I don't think I will follow the original pattern, which suggest borders in red and white patchwork. 

I have no definite idea yet, well, there is no rush..

The nice weather is still with us, but it is beginning to feel like autumn, with early morning mist.

When that clears, there is still lots of colour in our garden.

              The spiders have been busy.

Scandinavian Rose 11 and - bread

The weather for the past few days has been trying to fool us into thinking that the spring is here.

I wish it was true! 

Although we still get some rain, the weather seems to have settled down, and it is more like something we would expect at this time of year. 

Out of my hibernation comes 

a freshly baked bread

and part 11 of 

Scandinavian Rose Quilt BOM.

This is a long and narrow piece, not easy to take a close up picture of.

and I am already working on part 11.

Scandinavian Rose 9

                                                     

Another part of Scandinavian Rose Quilt BOM finished.

This one was quite quick, but despite that, I think I am beginning to realize the size of the project, as there are 4 more blocks to stitch. 

And I have not yet decided on the fabrics for the patchwork part of the quilt!

In her original design Rosalie Quinlan used a selection of red and white fabrics. I know that they were chosen to compliment the redwork of the stitcheries, but I am not convinced that this colour combination does the embroidery justice. I feel that the embroidery designs are so beautiful in themselves and they should be framed more gently. That said, I have no idea (yet) what the answer should be. May be I will wait until I am working on the last embroidery before I seriously think about it and just enjoy stitching it in the meantime.
